The Modern Meetup Goal
It's not just about meeting up anymore.
You need a spot with good lighting, a great background, and a fair travel time.
Here are Hamburg's best, where fairness meets photogenic.
1. The Wasserschloss in Speicherstadt
The classic. Meet at U-Bahn Baumwall (U3).
- The shot: The moated castle, framed by two bridges, is probably Hamburg's most famous Instagram photo.
- Why it's a great midway: Baumwall is on the scenic U3 line, making it a convenient and beautiful journey from many parts of the city.
- Golden hour tip: The warm light on the red brick is unbeatable.
2. The Elbphilharmonie Plaza
Take the U3 to Baumwall or the U4 to Überseequartier.
- The shot: Sweeping 360-degree views of the harbor and the city. The curved glass of the building also makes for great abstract shots.
- Why it's a great midway: It's a fantastic destination, and its accessibility via two different U-Bahn lines makes it fairer than you might think.
- Cost: Access to the Plaza is free! You just need to get a ticket from the counter or book one online.
3. The Docklands Office Building
Take the ferry (#62) to Dockland or a bus.
- The shot: A striking, ship-shaped glass building with a public staircase running up its roof. The view from the top is incredible.
- Why it's a great midway: A unique option. Perfect if one friend is in Altona/Ottensen and the other takes the scenic ferry route.
- Best for: A sunny day when you can appreciate the architecture and the view.
4. The Colorful Stalls of the Isemarkt
Under the U3 tracks between Hoheluftbrücke and Eppendorfer Baum.
- The shot: A vibrant, bustling market scene. Piles of fresh fruit, flowers, and cheeses create a colorful, textured backdrop.
- Why it's a great midway: It stretches between two U3 stations, making it a perfect linear meeting point. Start at one end and walk to the other.
- Remember: It's only on Tuesdays and Fridays!
Fair travel times. Flawless photos.
